〈 Can ZiweiDoushu be self-taught? 〉

Many people who first encounter ZiweiDoushu often start by looking at their own life chart. They look at the chart and then refer to the explanations in books about the different houses and stars, thinking, “Oh, so this is how it works, my fate is roughly like this!” This self-learning approach is possible, but after years of observation, I’ve found that this method often encounters a few problems:

1.      The explanations in books are often one-dimensional:

Most books will explain in detail the meaning of each star in different houses. However, the problem is that this one-dimensional interpretation can sometimes be incomplete or even misleading. After all, the essence of ZiweiDoushu lies in understanding the combination of stars and houses, as well as the changes and interactions between the stars, rather than just looking at one star in isolation.

2.      The more you read, the more confused you become:

After studying for a while, you might find that the explanations of stars in different houses seem similar. Eventually, you might simplify it to “prosperity stars (“祿星”in Chinese) and auspicious stars (“吉星”in Chinese)  are good, while the harmful stars (“煞星”in Chinese) and inauspicious stars (“忌星”in Chinese) are bad.” While this seems simple, it lacks depth.

3.      Difficulty in finding one's birth chart due to uncertain birth time:

Some people, when faced with an uncertain birth time, may check their life chart at different times, only to find that the charts seem quite similar. In the end, they become confused and can't figure out which one is their correct chart.

4.      Negative reaction to harmful stars and inauspicious stars:

When inauspicious stars or harmful stars appear in the chart, some people may become overly worried, even panicked, and start feeling uneasy.

Personally, I believe that self-learning ZiweiDoushu may not be suitable for everyone, and many books cannot cover all the details and depth of ZiweiDoushu. If you are truly interested, I recommend reading some basic books to get an understanding of the fundamentals. If you wish to learn more deeply, it’s best to consult an experienced ZiweiDoushu master and study systematically under their guidance.
